ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
• Saved the Oceanside Airport from closing
• Kept the Oceanside Beach Resort Hotel on track
• Approved City Mark future 5-block master plan
• New Holiday Inn to open in the harbor summer 2009
• Approved renovations to provide affordable housing at Shadow Way Apts and Country Club Apts
• Pushed for the Coast Hwy and Oceanside Blvd Vision Plans
• Driving force behind Matrix study to streamline processing to make local government more efficient
• As liaison to Economic Development Commission brought forward the Economic Sustainability study to map out future sustainability and vitality of Oceanside
• Voted to move the Surf Museum to a new and better location
• Helping to vitalize downtown by encouraging businesses such as Harney Sushi, Breakwater Brewery, Red Cup Yogurt, 333, and Maui Coffee, etc
TRAFFIC and SAFETY
• Worked with many neighborhood groups to improve traffic safety
• Instrumental in getting the no left turn sign on Capistrano St and San Raphael to prevent traffic from Camp Pendleton cutting through the Francine Villas neighborhood
• Helped open Fire Station 7
• Pushed to connect Melrose to North Santa Fe for safety purposes and better traffic flow
• Added nine new police officers since coming on the council which has contributed to the lowest crime rate in 30 years
QUALITY OF LIFE
• Helped make the El Corazon Senior
Center a reality which will open summer 2009
• Instrumental in bringing the new Veteran’s Administration Medical Clinic to Oceanside
• Worked closely with veteran groups to convert the old police station into the north county Veteran’s Center
• Helped relocate the Dias del los Muerutes cultural event to San Luis Rey Mission
• Opened Mance Buchanon Park
• Approved the new bike master plan and helped get the bicycle friendly city designation for Oceanside
• Opened 2 new skate parks
• Voted for the Oceanside Museum of Art expansion
• Approved a new operator for the Oceanside Municipal and Center City Golf Courses
