Jerome M. “Jerry” Kern was elected to the Oceanside City Council in November 2006.
Jerry and his wife, Blake, are native Californians who have lived in Oceanside since 1975. They
have two adult children, Justin, who teaches for the Oceanside Unified School District, and Kasia,
who lives and works in the Bay Area. Their daughter-in-law, Cara, is an administrator for the Julian Unified School District.
Jerry earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from San Diego State University, and his Social Science and Business teaching credential from Chapman University. He
also earned an Associate of Arts degree in English and History from the University of Maryland (European Division), while serving overseas in the United States Air Force.
During his time in Oceanside Jerry has been extremely involved in the community at large; from
Little League coaching, years of chairing at the Old Mission Montessori School Christmas in July
annual craft fair, or serving on a variety of boards, commissions, and committees. Some of these have included the Historic Preservation Advisory Commission, the Seagaze Steering Committee, the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce Harbor Days logistics chair, and the El Corazon Oversight
Committee to name just a few.
Jerry and Blake were also co-founders of Pacific View Charter School, the first Charter School to
be approved in Oceanside. Also, as a former president of the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce he
was instrumental in bringing the Defenders of FreedomParade to Oceanside that rightfully honored
our military troops.
